29th September 2013 - 6th January 2014

This exhibition consists circa 100 paintings and works on paper drawn from notable private collections. The focus will be on the French avant-gardes of the late nineteenth century, with special attention to the Neo-Impressionist, Nabi, and Symbolist movements. Major artists will be examined in depth: Paul Signac, Maximilien Luce, Pierre Bonnard, Maurice Denis, Felix Vallotton, and Odilon Redon. The exhibition will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue with essays by scholars Bridget Alsdorf (Princeton University), Marina Ferretti Bocquillon (Musée des Impressionnismes), and Gloria Groom (Art Institute of Chicago). This presentation and publication will offer Italian audiences a rare opportunity to view and study a cohesive arc of French works from the period prior to the Fauve and Cubist avantgardes.
