L’exposition revient sur la confrontation féconde que les artistes contemporains ont menée, depuis les années 1960, avec l’œuvre de Picasso.

À la fois chronologique et thématique, le propos retrace les différents moments de la réception critique et artistique de l’œuvre de Picasso, les étapes de la formation du mythe associé à son nom. Aux grandes phases stylistiques, à certaines œuvres emblématiques de Pablo Picasso, telles que Les Demoiselles d’Avignon et Guernica, répondent les œuvres contemporaines de Hockney, Johns, Lichtenstein, Kippenberger, Warhol, Basquiat ou encore Jeff Koons.

Velázquez

Figure majeure de l’histoire de l’art, Diego Velázquez (1599- 1660) est sans conteste le plus célèbre des peintres de l’âge d’or espagnol.

L’exposition met son oeuvre en dialogue avec de nombreuses toiles d’artistes de son temps qu’il a pu connaître, admirer ou influencer.

Elle se penche également sur la question des variations de styles et de sujets dans les premières compositions de Velázquez, le passage entre naturalisme et caravagisme, ainsi que son égale habileté à exécuter paysages, portraits et peintures d’histoire.

One of the most reknown Japanese artist HOKUSAI will be presented by the Réunion des Musées Nationaux – Grand Palais, autumn exhibition 2014. In the early 19 century,HOKUSAI’s Ukiyoe becomes a large influence for the French / European impressionists, and still gives inspiration for many contemporary artists.

I, Augustus, Emperor of Rome

To commemorate the two thousandth anniversary of the death of the Emperor Augustus, the Grand Palais brings to life his greatest achievements and the artistic ferment of his reign. Images of the emperor can be found all over Rome and through out the provinces. A selection of statues, sculpted reliefs, frescoes, pieces of furniture and silverware, along with a reconstruction of a villa from the slopes of Vesuvius and tombs uncovered in Gaul reveal the changes in the social environment of the Romans.

Cartier a pourtant joué un rôle très important dans l’histoire des arts décoratifs. In an area of just under 4000 m², this exhibition will reveal how, over the last fifteen years, many artists have explored the notions of vision, space, light, structure and movement in their work, often encouraging visitors to take an active role in their installations: notable examples include the changing chromatic atmospheres of Ann Veronica Janssens, the vibrating structures and kaleidoscopic mirrors of Jeppe Hein and Anish Kapoor, and the in situ creations of Felice Varini.
