The iconic scent.

Built on a subtle play of correspondences, No. 5 Culture Chanel decrypts the famous perfume, Chanel No. 5, outlining the links that set this iconic fragrance in the context of an era, and showing the avant-garde trends associated with it.

Works of art, photographs, films, records and other exhibits reflect the many inspirations that fueled the imagination of Coco Chanel. Echoing her own reflections and inspirations, this this unique and timeless fragrance was born, created in 1921 by Ernest Beaux in tribute to the fashion designer. The exhibition evokes her favourite haunts, creations by her friends who were artists, poets and musicians; such as Cocteau, Picasso, Apollinaire, Stravinsky, and Picabia.  Today, many muses have represented the famous fragrance with its floral notes, including Catherine Deneuve, Carole Bouquet, Nicole Kidman, Audrey Tatou and, more recently, Brad Pitt. Legend has it, when asked what she wore to sleep in, Marilyn Monroe responded "five drops of Chanel No. 5".
